Donor FAQ

How much of my donation goes to the furkids?

100% of your pet specified donation ~ minus any PayPal, or other institutional, Transaction Fee ~ goes to help the furkids. If the donor elects any available option to cover the Transaction Fee, 100% of the donation will go toward the pet medical care.
Donations which do not specify a particular use will be deposited in the General Fund for use as needed. While the overwhelming majority of monies in this Fund will be expended for the furkids medical treatment, a minimal amount will also be used for necessary operating expenses (if any). Donations will never profit any member of the Board of Directors, or others, involved in the management and operation of the auctions.

What happens if I make a donation for a specific furkid in need and you have already reached your fundraising goal?

Unless you specify an alternate preference when making a direct donation, or contact us and ask for a refund, your donation will be deposited in the General Fund to be used wherever it is most needed. Every attempt to let our supporters know when the goal had been reached.

How are funds dispensed for the medical treatment of beneficiaries?

Once shipping receipts are provided all payments will be made directly to the treating veterinarian or veterinary clinic. If there are an excess of funds, the balance will be either be put in the general fund (depending where the item came from) or sent via Paypal to the beneficiary.

What steps are taken to ascertain that applicants actually are facing financial hardship?

Estimates of procedures will need to be supplied as well as statements of finance, such as paystubs, bank statements, etc. Phone calls are also made to the vets and beneficiaries themselves.

How long has BIN been operating?

BIN began in 2008, on another website, as a small group of rabbit ‘parents’ helping other rabbit parents obtain needed medical treatment for their bunnies. As of June 2010, this small group has helped over 100 rabbits. Since then, with the need of financial help going beyond just the bunnies, BIN opened the doors to rats and then in 2015 to all furkids but moved the auctions to Facebook where a wider support base could be established.

Is BIN a registered non-profit organization?

Unfortunately no. Due to lack of availability from volunteers, the needed number of people could not be found to form a legal board of directors.

Are donations tax deductible?
